Obituary For James Allen Mitchell

James Allen Mitchell, 60, a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, stepfather, and friend left us on December 12, 2024. Born in Sioux City, IA to James and Judith (Fagan) Mitchell. The family moved to Loves Park, IL when he was a small child.

Graduated from Harlem High School in 1982. He furthered his education and career several times. He studied to become an aviation mechanic and worked for Eastern Airlines. He earned a music business degree at Elmhurst College then went to work for Gretsch Guitars and Drums as Production Manager. Jim was a very talented musician and could not only play several instruments but also enjoyed making them outside of making them for Gretsch. Eventually, he made it back to the area and pursued a nursing degree specializing in respiratory. He worked at different hospitals but found his calling in Hospice and spent the last 6 years of his nursing career doing that.

Jim married Alison Jackson in 2014 and became an instant stepdad and grandpa.

He is survived by his wife, Alison; father, James Mitchell; brother, Jeff (Brenda) Mitchell; stepson, Jacob (Elizabeth Bankson) Jackson; stepdaughter, Hannah Jackson and 5 grandchildren; Ava, Baleigh, Lyla, Jackson, Karsten; nephews Justin ( Kellie) Mitchell, Ryan (Brittany) Mitchell, two grand nephews and a baby on the way. I am shocked & saddened to know of my friend Jim's passing. Although we worked together as hospice nurses for a short time, we quickly became friends. I will be forever grateful how he dried my tears when times were tough. Condolences to Alison and the rest of his family.

Deepest sympathy to Jim's family and friends - so very sorry for your loss. Haven't seen Jim in years and years but would love to share a memory from junior or senior year of high school: It was dark and I was driving home from work (lived at the end of a dead-end street). Was close to home, when behind me saw flashing lights. Of course, thinking it was the police and I was about to get a ticket for something.... dutifully pulled over. Out of what I thought was a police car, steps Jim and Fred, laughing and having a good old time at my expense. And once I got in the house, had to explain myself to my parents. But, hey – no ticket! Turns out Jim had his brother's car and his brother had lights for 1st responder installed in his car. Years later Jim would try to deny it, but then he conceded that maybe..... It definitely happened but must not have stuck out to Jim as much as it did to me!
