Obituary For James Montana

James Montana AKA “Brother Fox” or “Crabtree”, 88, of Rockford passed away Thursday January 10, 2019 in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born April 2, 1930 in Rockford, the son of Peter and Catherine Montano. He married Ruth Stover on July 9, 1950. Jim worked for the City of Rockford for over 35 years, Retiring as the supervisor of the Sewer Division.

James was a gentle and playful man. He loved his kids, and adored his grandchildren. He treasured spending his time with his brother, Charlie, sitting outside the garage talking for hours. His yard was his pride and joy and enjoyed working along side his sons who would often help him. His extreme work ethic was shown through his never ending projects, and his excitement for new adventures, in all of which he included his grandchildren. He loved camping on his lot at Lake Puckaway in Wisconsin, where he spent his days fishing and relaxing in nature with family. He loved his wife, Ruth, as well, and he made sure she knew with his playful bickering and silly nicknames. James was a beautiful soul, and will be missed dearly by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

James is survived by his wife Ruth. Children, Jim “Chick” (Katherine) Montana, Charles (Tammy) Montana, Mike Montana, Judy (Dave) Wilcox and Pete (Lori) Montana. Grandchildren, Stephanie (Bryan) Wolfe, Jeremy (Ali) Montana, Kyle (Stephanie) Montana, Michael (Natanya) Montana, Tiffany Montana, Raquel (JJ) Bennyhoff, Joey DiVerdi, Whitney (Steve) Stoltz and Gabrielle Montana.

Nineteen Great grandchildren, Annabelle, Jackson, Brycen, Mackenna, Anthony, Emma, Mason, Garrett, Evie, Layni, Max, Olwen, Gregory, Samson, Mirana, Kristen, Zach, Nathan and Sophia. Sister, Rose Sandoval. Many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents. Brothers, Tom, Sam, John, Peter, Tony, Nano and Charles. Sisters, Annie, Mary, Millie and Baby Anna.

A Special thank you to his caregiver and friend, Zetta. Also thank you OSF Hospice, his nurse Lisa and caregiver Beryl. All showed great care and compassion for Jimmy and his family.
