Obituary For John Edward Johnson
John Edward Johnson, 61, of Prophetstown passed away peacefully with family by his side on Wednesday, June 15 at the Medina Nursing Center in Durand, IL. John was born February 26, 1961, in Rockford, the son of Edward “Speed” and Antoinetta (Segalla) Johnson. Survivors include four sisters, Gay R. (Dennis) Knox, Sunnie J. (Charles) McGuire, Cheerie A. (Larry) Ohda, Glorie A. (Timothy) Malone, and brother, David T. (Tamara) Johnson. Nieces and nephews, Kristine K. Carey, Heidi D. (Ben) Dowling, Patrick M. (Lisa) McGuire, Monica A. Shaw, Timothy T. (Celeste) Malone, Joseph E. Malone, and Daniel W. Malone, Reese D. Johnson, Brock T. Johnson, and many great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and sisters Joy and Merrily.
Johnny grew up surrounded by family. He attended Page Park School in Rockford and after graduation, worked at the Center of Hope where he was proud to earn a paycheck. He was also so proud to have his own apartment for several years, living at Valkommen in Rockford. In 1997, when he moved to Strive in Prophetstown, his family grew to include many special people who love and miss him. Words cannot express the love and gratitude of John’s family to the residents and staff members of Strive who shared life with John these many years. To all the residents especially Larry who was John’s roommate for over 20 years and to the wonderful staff at Strive…we love you! Special thanks also go to the staff members at Morrison Hospital, Serenity Hospice, and Medina Nursing Center for the wonderful care and compassion over the past few months. There truly are angels among us.
Services will be at St. Peter Cathedral on Thursday, June 23 with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Reverend Kenneth Anderson officiating followed by a burial service at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to Winning Wheels, Inc. 415 A Street Prophetstown, Illinois 61277.
Johnny was a lifetime Cubs and Bears fan and loved Michael Jordan. In celebration of his life, we are inviting those who attend his service to join us in wearing your favorite Chicago team apparel…
