Henry M. Mattingly, 72, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Swedish American Hospital. He was born August 31, 1950, in Rockford to Henry and Margaret Mattingly. As a child, he lived in several states with his family before they returned to Rockford, Illinois, where he lived for the remainder of his life.

Henry was an entrepreneur, owning businesses in information technology, real estate, and financial trading. He had a deep faith in God and was generous to those in need. He was adventurous, loving his time as a private pilot and driving fast motorcycles, boats, and cars. While it may not have been obvious, he was also sentimental, keeping and displaying cards and pictures given to him by his family over the years. He enjoyed looking at them as he thought of and prayed for his family, looking forward to when he could spend time with them.

He was preceded in death by both his father and mother. Survivors include daughter Jennifer Mattingly, son Jeremy (Kristen) Mattingly, grandsons Ethan and Adam Mattingly, stepson Jacob Torgeson, siblings Maria (Garrett) Jones, Julia (Mike) McCormick, Bruce (Lerie) Mattingly, Bernadette Nelson, Anthony (Tina) Mattingly, and Margaret (Pat) Janczak, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19, at 12 p.m., at Tony Gasparini Funeral Home at 9825 Weaver Road, Rockford, IL 61114. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. and will last until the start of service. Family members are invited to a brief interment ceremony at Scandinavian Cemetery immediately following the memorial service.
