Obituary For Marilyn K. Varcato

Marilyn K. “Cipolla” Varcato 70, of Rockford, IL, passed away on Good Friday, March 29, 2024.

Marilyn was born on August 16, 1953, in Rockford, the daughter of Robert and Stella (Lattuca) Cipolla. Marilyn attended St. Anthony's grade school, and three years at Muldoon High School, before spending her senior year at Boylan Catholic High School, graduating in the class of 1971.

Marilyn was employed for over 20 years at UW Health, formerly Swedish American Hospital, always serving the patients with compassion and kindness. Marilyn had a passion for animals, often pet-sitting for her favorite fur babies. She also loved her soap operas and had a strong interest in celebrities more than anyone we knew. She enjoyed the beach, going to the movies, and garage sales, and loved spending time with her friends and family.

Marilyn continually had a positive outlook on life, despite struggles with her illness. She bravely and courageously dealt with heart disease for 17 years and always remained hopeful for a recovery. She will always be admired for her will to live.

Most importantly, Marilyn was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Her deep love for her nieces and nephews was her greatest pleasure in life. She cared for them deeply, always treating them as her own, and in turn, they loved her just as much. She will always hold a special place in their hearts. She touched all our lives and will be forever loved and missed by her family. Rest in peace our sweet, Mar...

Survivors are her loving sisters and brother-in-laws, Barb & Bill Zegunis & Theresa & Peter Didier. Loving nieces and nephews, Karen Schuster (Pete), Rachel Nelson, (Rob Larson), and Karl Nelson. Great niece and nephew, Estella and Slade Schuster, and great niece, Baby Larson arriving in August.

Marilyn is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Stella Cipolla, and brother-in-law John Sweeney.

Memorial Mass at 11:00 am Saturday, April 6, 2024, in St. Anthony of Padua Church. Visitation from 9:30 am until 10:45 am Saturday in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to be established by the family. Arrangements by Tony Gasparini Funerals.

Hi Mar, I wanted to call you today, like I did two or three times everyday, but you weren't there. I know that you didn't want to leave us and I didn't want you to leave. Who am I going to fight with now, maybe Pete or the kids, oh wait I already do!! I will miss you more than you can ever imagine. I feel like a piece of me has gone with you. I know how much you were suffering and you didn't deserve that! I so hope that you are at peace now, I just wanted your pain to go away. Thank you for everything you have done for me and the kids. I will miss you soooo much. I love you dearly, my sweet sister! Until we meet again...❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏

Marilyn will be missed by many people. I only knew Marilyn for a short 10 years, She was a neighbor and friend. I am not a people person, but Marilyn and her sweet and kind personality won me over and broke through my safety wall I had put up around myself. Marilyn was a great special friend that I had a beautiful relation with. Marilyn was always willing to help others before thinking of herself. I met some of her family and the love of family was deep. Her family was always there when she needed them. She will be missed with deep sadness. Love always Randy.

Marilyn was one of my dearest friends we were in same class with the same last name but not related except in our hearts. When I think of Marilyn I remember laughing until we cried. We had some adventures in our teen years. She was my maid of honor at my wedding 50 years ago. I just spoke to her two weeks ago and I'm so glad that I did. Love and hugs to you all.
