Richard Joseph Mueller, 88, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Freeport, Illinois, Richard was the son of Buelah and Joseph Mueller, deceased, and survived by his only brother, William Mueller.

After attending Freeport High School, Richard served his country with honor as a United States Air Force Veteran. His commitment to duty and sacrifice left an indelible mark on those who knew him. After his military service, he pursued education, graduating from Brown’s Business College. He went on to work for Greenlee Textron for 30 years retiring in 1998.

Richard’s zest for life extended beyond his professional pursuits. He found joy in playing bocce at both St. Ambrose and Verdi Italian Clubs. His competitive spirit and camaraderie endeared him to fellow players and friends. He was one of the co-chairs for Festa Italiano in Rockford for 30 years. He was also passionate about flying.

In 1969, Richard married the love of his life, Mary Ann (Giacone) Mueller, and they shared 54 years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Richard was a devoted father to his three daughters, Carla Mueller, Michele Blankenberger, and Jennifer Lunsford. His legacy continues through his four granddaughters, Chloe Lunsford, Tori Lunsford, Emma Kosik, and Isabella Blankenberger.

Richard’s warm smile, unwavering kindness, and love for family will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him. His memory lives on as a testament to a life well lived.

A Funeral Mass to celebrate Richard’s life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 24, 2024, in St. Anthony Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson Street in Rockford, Illinois, Visitation will be from 9:00 am until 10:45 Saturday in the church. Service will be followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery, Rockford, Illinois.
